Frequently Asked Questions
How is the death certificate process started?
Depending on the location, the funeral home typically starts the death certificate in the state Electronic Death Registration System (EDRS). Afterwards, the certifier reviews the information and issues a cause and manner of death.
What groups does DCC serve?
DCC works with hospitals, hospital systems, and Medical Examiner/Coroner Offices to sign death certificates quickly, thereby providing families with an accurate death certificate and offloading the physician burden.
What kind of doctors work at DCC?
What is the typical turn-around time?
Currently, DCC employs experienced, board-certified forensic pathologists and other physicians who have certified numerous death certificates. This ensures staff understand the differences in jurisdiction and when an autopsy may be needed.
At DCC, we try to sign out death certificates on the same day. With a few exceptions, such as pending test results, we typically have death certificates signed out less than 24 hours.
